Stopped in "How to Use CD ROMS with iGigBook"

Post by NoCalJG » Sun Jan 11, 2015 6:13 pm

I'm not seeing or recognizing the options described. I got this far: bought the Real Book 6 Vol1 CD, copied its pdfs from the CD in my iMac onto my iPad, have iGIGBook's Set List Manager window open. Never saw anything about email or deleting drafts. In the Set List Manager there's a side with My Sets showing Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD with a scary minus sign in a red circle to its left. There are similarly red-flagged MySet and Recently Viewed items as well as a friendlier-looking New Set List with a + in a green circle. The right side of the screen seems to enable deleting specific songs in Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD(400). Also, there is only "Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.plist" on my iPad, no "Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.pdf" as described.

I've set up several other books and am familiar with the renaming drill, but I'm stumped on how to finish this chore. Screen shots would vastly improve your explanations. If it matters, I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1.2 (12B440).

Step 4: Use the Set List Sharing feature to generate a single PDF. DO NOT SEND THE EMAIL

You should be in the Gig Set Viewer, this is where the Set List Sharing feature is, it's the mail icon. There is no "Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.pdf" because you haven't generated it using Step 4.

Still no luck. As soon as I take step 6: "Locate the file Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.pdf and rename it to realbk1h.pdf" this retitled file disappears from the contents of my iPad displayed in the iTunes window on my iMac.

After I take step 7: "You can also delete the files copied during step 1 now" the pdfs appear on my iPad in the Gig Set Viewer but clicking one produces a Not Found message asking me to "Please COPY this book to your device." No surprise, there is no Real Book 6th Edition or whatever it's supposed to be named in my Book List.

Other steps don't appear as described. Step 2 "Access my.igigbook.com from your device and select Latest News" takes me directly to a LogIn page and then a second LogIn page. Next came the Content Manager page with no opportunity to see or select Latest News. On the third page of the Manage My Book Settings, I found Real Book 6th Edition with the desired code of nrealbk1h. I clicked its Edit button, checked the Active box and then the Save button. Manage My Book Settings reappeared with Real Book 6th Edition checked as Active. I'm replicating these steps now so I can describe them but don't know what to do next to get out of the Manage My Book Settings window. The mail dialog has long disappeared, there was never a need to take step 8 "Return to your device and select Cancel to dismiss the mail dialog and select Delete Draft"

I'd really like to get this to work for a gig tonight.

Do you have Real Book 6th Edition in your book list view? If not an you have checked it as active, you just need to sync once with the server to pull that index down to your device. This index is available by default whether you are in guest mode or if you're logged into iGigBook. The only way it wouldn't appear in your Book LIst view is if it was marked as inactive.

When you rename a file in the File Sharing section of iTunes that file will appear in a different part of the list depending on what you rename it to and so may appear to have "disappeared".

Right now I'm not sure where you are in the process. Do you still have the individual files loaded on your device? Do you sill have the set titled "Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD"?

No, "Real Book 6th Edition" is not on my Book List. My iGigBook includes the "realbk1h.pdf" file, renamed from "Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.pdf". The Set Viewer includes "Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD". I reloaded all the pdfs onto my iPad, so each opens when I click its title in the Set Viewer. My iGigBook also has these files: "Set_Real_Book_6th_Ed_CD.plist" and "Set_Recently Viewed.plist".

Success at last! The step I forgot was that in order to download the index, I had to click the sync icon on the Book List page. The "Step by step for Real Book 6th Edition CD ROM" doesn't mention this critical step. Thank goodness for the screen shots provided in your help pages, though unfortunately not on "How To Use Real Book CD ROMS With iGigBook."

I must say, this whole process seems extremely baroque, though it worked in the end and I didn't need this book for last night's gig after all.
