Best Practise for Expanding Repertoire Custom Book?

Post by dustandbarley » Tue May 17, 2016 8:51 am

Hi Folks,

I'm relatively new to iGigbook, so please be gentle :)

I have iGigbook working for me fine, but wonder what the best practise is for the following scenario?

One of the projects I dep for is an originals band with an ever expanding repertoire. I have a custom book for them in which the songs are nicely ordered alphabetically - just like the real books etc.

I'd like to ask advice for the best way to add new songs to the book as I want to keep them in alphabetical order?? Presently, to add a new song whose title begins with the letter "B" (for example) I have to delete all the songs from the "Song Titles" page from the http://my.igigbook.com page, then bulk upload all the songs again with the new songs and altered page numbers allowing for the additional early entry. I then delete the old book (pdf file) from my iPad using iTunes and upload the new one with the additional new song when prompted on my iPad once the new index has uploaded/downloaded. This is all ok, but all the old set lists are then effected as they will reference the incorrect pages from the book from the letter B upwards (I hope this make sense)

What do you folks do in this scenario? Should I forget about keeping the custom book alphabetical and just add new songs to the end of the custom book and update the number of pages for that custom book?

I'm so sorry if this sounds like gibberish / has already been answered / is posted in the wrong place.

Many many thanks

Justin

There is no reason to delete all of the entries to add a new one if you want them to be in alphabetical order. You're operating under the notion that if you have title "A" on page 5 and title "C" on page 6, that you need to make the newly acquired title "B" page 6 and title "C" page 7. If you're dealing with a physical book this is what you would do. With iGigBook the alphabetical order is independent of the page order. This means that in a scenario such as your own, you create a PDF and then just add songs to the end of it and the titles are automatically sorted alphabetically. If your desire is to use this PDF somewhere else say with another app or to print it and you want it in alphabetical order then you would insert the pages in the correct alpha order.

Hello Phil, thank you for your quick reply.
I understand your instruction and will keep an alpha organised pdf separate and just add the pages to the custom book as you suggest.
Fabulous, and many thanks.
