Bb single index accessible only through C book

Post by Dominic Kyrie » Mon Jul 16, 2018 2:21 am

Starting with a functioning copy of Real Book Volume I, 6th Edition, (file name "realbk1h.pdf" ), I used the "single index" method to add a Bb PDF, and named it "realbk1h_bb.pdf".

All the tunes have same page number across the two PDFs, as well as same offset.

But, it seems I can only get to a tune in the Bb book by opening the C book, finding it in the index, going to the page in the C book, then using the Transpose function on the Key button. Also, if I press "Song List" while viewing any Bb page, I am taken to the C index, and must go through the transposition procedure after an index lookup, to get to any Bb page. So, I can't directly scan through the Bb index.

In other words, the Bb book does not have its own icon on the Book List screen, and I can't get to any page in the Bb book directly from any index.

Moreover, in the iGigBook settings page, there is no book index code "realbk1h_bb", even after syncing.

What am I doing wrong?

Is direct access to the Bb pages even possible within the single index system?

Yeah, mine does that too. I think is the nature of the single index system. Since I play tenor most of the time, I set my default to Bb. Then I can easily switch to C or Eb if I feel like playing flute or alto.

This is the way the system is designed to work. There is no separate index for Bb, Eb, or Bass Clef books unless the book is actually different as in the case with the New Real Books.

I frequently switch between tenor sax, alto, and flute at gigs, and I need quick access to those different Real Books. What's the best way to set this up in my Book List?

Ok, I found a forum post that helped me load my Bb and Eb Real Books into the same index (crealbk1_bb and crealbk1_eb) BUT, turns out my PDFs are slightly different and the Bb and Eb versions don't line up with the existing index. Is there a way to fix this? Could I clone the crealbk1 index and change it for Bb and Eb, but keep it the same for my C version?

The best thing to do is sort our your PDFs because you can only use this feature if the books have all the pages in the correct order.
