Updating user-created index.

Post by hejbol » Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:39 am

Howdy,

I'm trying to figure out an easier way to make multiple updates to an index on an ongoing basis. I want to be able to add a number of songs in different keys whenever we add new songs to our set list. Currently, the only way I can figure out how to do this seems rather painful:
1. Open Manage Song Titles
2. Add new song(s)
3. Change Page and Page Number fields for ALL the existing entries.

Am I doing something wrong?

I really want to be able to make bulk updates to the index offline using a spreadsheet so that I can use all of the math features available to me (for determining pages and page numbers) and then uploading those changes to the index. This doesn't seem possible.

One solution I've found is to upload a new index with updated song information, but it doesn't seem that I can delete the old index without deleting all of the songs in the index, and I'm certainly not going to waste my time deleting 150+ songs every time just so I can delete the index. This leaves me with a number of indexes that I'm never going to use again.

Thanks for any help you can offer. Sorry if I missed the topic that addresses this issue.

You're wasting time and energy using the method you have described.

The best way to do this is to just add the new pages to the end of the book followed by adding the index entries to the existing index. Index entries are always shown in alphabetical order not in page number order and because of that pages do not need to be inserted just added unless you want to do more work than you have to.

Thanks, that works reasonably well. Thanks for the quick response.

It seems to leave one issue unresolved, however. If you add new charts to the end of the index and the pdf, the pdf is out of alphabetical order. Although it's a minor point, you may not be able to page between 2 charts even though they appear next to each other in the index.

I'm not complaining, but it would seem that if I could just update the entire index, I could have both the book and index in order. If you happen to have the chance to make this feature available, or at least give the user the ability to delete an existing index, which I could then replace, that would be nice.
