Version 1.40

Post by SiteAdmin » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:36 pm

Version 1.40 will be a more slightly significant update than previous updates. If you have encountered a problem with other versions or have an idea for a new feature now is the time to speak up and allow yourself to be heard.

Highlights include:

A separate view for all scores and books that aren't indexed which replaces the "My Scores" item in the book list.

Ability to view and transpose charts from http://www.realbook.us, technically this feature already exists, but more work has been done on it's integration along with the ability to pull content from other web sources.

Revamp of iGigBook Pager so that it can turn pages on multiple iPads at once.

A change to the look of the tab interface.

Overhaul of the page slider, it will only display pages once you've released the slider(making it seem much faster) and it will be wider which will make it more manageable in situations where there are a large number of pages.

Ability to turn pages using AirTurn and other bluetooth emulating page turning devices. Pages will only turn forwards not backwards in the same way that iGigBook Pager only turns pages forward when using motion detection.
iGigBook - It's what the pros use.

Is it possible to optimize the delay time for a page turn following a finger tap?
You've probably looked at this already but I wonder if it's worth giving another
look. I know the response time is a lot quicker for an IPAD2 with its faster
processor but I have to live with my IPAD for now since I'm a starving bass player... :D

Thanks,

Regarding my previous reply, one more thing I forgot to mention for a point of
reference is.... If you tap a page using IBOOKS, the response time is much quicker
than in IGIGBOOK. It's less than 1 second vs. about 2 seconds in IGIGBOOK. My
guess is that there's more servicing overhead for this tool. The question is how
much more overhead is there. Is a page tap handled in an interrupt service routine
or is it done by polling?

There are a lot of factors at play here that affect the speed of the page turn.

1. The size of the scans of the book will affect how fast the pages turn. The higher the resolution of the scan, the longer it takes to render.

2. The number of apps loaded in the background and I believe fragmentation of internal memory will have an affect too.

3. The page curl animation was set at .5 seconds and I believe it is now .25.

If you compare the page to page transition(tap) to the chart to chart transition (swipe) you will see a difference in rendering speed and this is by design. During the development and testing of the app on actual reading gigs having no delay i.e. the page turning as quickly as possible without any indication of the page being turned was confusing when reading notation. Sometimes one wasn't sure that the page turned especially when the next page of notation doesn't differ dramatically from the previous page.

Back in the days when the iPad didn't "multitask" you could get predictable performance for an app, but now that will vary depending on which apps you have loaded in the background as they reduce the overall amount of memory that the foreground app has available and if another app is doing stuff in the background that cause a further impact on the performance of the app in the foreground. If you take an app like garage band and run it and then run iGigBook the pages turns will lag with garage band loaded than with it not loaded.

From my own tests, iGigBook and running the stop watch on an iPod Touch or a metronome clicking at 60 beats a minute the page turns are in the 1 second range as I never fall behind the stop watch or the metronome.

Phil.

After loading v1.40, I can't seem to get the Score Navigation function to work in the set list viewer.

When I open a song and try to make entries in the score nav menu,, (sign, coda, d.s., clear all, etc.)
It doesn't accept any entries. It doesn't display the selected page no's where I'm trying to put the markers
onto. Also, on a song that previously was configured in V1.39, If I tap on "clear all" the values that were
set in, remain. They are not cleared out.

I'm not sure I'm not doing anything wrong. I had no problem using it before. ???

Changing or setting values on that menu works by pressing an holding the selection. Tapping an item that has entries navigates to that page, once on that page pressing and holding the same item, clears that item.
