Installed V6 and tried to make notes. The feature behaves a bit erratic with the Apple Pencil, making it hard to really control the writing process. What can i do?
Slightly “agitated/delayed” action compared with other apps, but for me not enough to be a functional issue (new pencil on iPad Pro). Can’t find a way of zooming in when drawing - perhaps in an update?
An update with zoom capability should be available some time this weekend.

Wow, that is great news. I was picturing something much later in the year.

Regarding pen usage, I am completely in agreement about the advantages of using a pen, but on my typical gig the mechanics of using one are just too onerous. So if I have detailed text to enter, I'll continue to use the existing annotation mechanism.

If you're interested in hearing use cases, I anticipate using the finger/pen drawing mechanism in the following situations:

1. To flag something important, e.g. an easily-missed repeat, a segno, a birdseye, etc. In those cases a little red mark or a circle or exclamation point will do the job, and my finger is fine for that.

2. To make a note on the bandstand which I'll later turn into an annotation. This seems likely to be a common case. If there's a wrong chord, for example, or a wrong lyric, or a missing four-bar section in Desafinado (LOL) I'll make a big red "FIX THIS" on the job, and then deal with it later.

3. Occasionally, I'll be able to put in a hairpin or a chord symbol or similar edit with my finger that is good enough. This will be easier when zoom is available, especially on tiny scores. But if you look at some of the old fakes we use, many of the original files have pretty sloppy annotations. My finger won't be much worse.

Basically, finger input is one more tool in the toolkit. If I can figure out a place to keep a stylus I might go back to using one, but it's one more thing to carry, and lose, and break, and have the batteries run down.

On a related topic, I haven't noticed if we can get from the annotation interface to the drawing interface; perhaps someday those UIs could be combined in some way, because they address a common need.

And since I've mentioned the annotation interface, I'll just add that the one biggest wish-list item for me: for annotations to save automatically as they are entered, rather than requiring a manual save. Like many other users, I've often spent a few minutes putting in a complex annotation, only to touch the screen somewhere accidentally and lose my text. If the behavior was "save automatically, delete manually" rather than "delete automatically, save manually" my life would be much easier.

Thanks again, and thanks for planning the zoom update so quickly.

Thanks Phil for 6.04. My life is now complete! Seriously, as far as I am concerned, the app has now really reached full maturity. Of course there is room for icing on the cake/tweaking.
And thanks spinality for those use cases. I’m lucky having the new pencil and the way it magnetically attaches to the side really makes a difference.
Can switch from typing mode to drawing mode but ? not the other way - perhaps work in progress.
(Desafinado - absolutely .... in big red letters at the top to “ask the band!” first on those missing four bars- and needs horizontal mode- and while we are about it, let’s make some of the chord changes more “gentle” ... I could go on:)

Thanks for that info...

Looking at other apps, in particular the top seller in the Music category on iOS... It does render the writing faster, unfortunately the end result doesn't look like my handwriting. We're still refining though.
Thanks for V 0.4 Phil.

I wouldn't really mind the result NOT looking like my handwriting as long as it's possible to read it clearly.

The "rendering speed" of some other apps (e.g. for score) feels quite natural in sync with my writing speed. At rehearsals when taking notes i'm usually a bit under time pressure to get it all and having to write particularly slow makes it hard to keep track of what's going on in the further discussion of the arrangement etc.

Hi Phil et al,
I'm really happy with the previous version of igigbook- can't really find much use for the writing tool in ver. 6 that other editing tool in the app can already do.
What I do miss though are the pretty little hand icons - left and right - remember those? ? And his pal ?. So handy for page turns. They disappeared a few versions back..shame! Any chance of getting them back? I for one would be a very happy bunny!

Seems like a nice feature. It should help for making directional markings on scores, although a compatible pen looks to be a necessity, as the finger writing is really pretty messy and clunky from what I've tried. Also, am I missing something, or has the previous ability to type notes been removed now? If so, that's a downgrade to go with the upgrade. Please tell me I'm wrong and point me to where I can use that feature again, which I used very often before, for instance to type chord substitutions in a neat and readable manner.
Text notes are still there, next icon after the pencil on all PDF views.
Thanks for that. I see what was happening. My issue is with charts that already have notes. On those charts, clicking the icon after the pencil just hides the notes. On those ones I have to press and hold my original note to get the text notes window to appear. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

ThanksPhil

Very pleased. I have struggled for some time to annotate scores whilst using Air Turn pedal. With version 6 I can do this without a problem. Could do to be a bit smoother but otherwise just fine.

Again thanks Phil. V 6.0.6. made it for me. Everything perfect now! Writing has become quite natural, i couldn't imagine it to be better.

Yes we did remove those to make way for a bunch of musical symbols. Among those symbols are left and right arrows but not the "pretty little hand icons".
