What people are describing here is a situation where they are viewing a chart and without any user interaction the chart they were looking at disappears and they are returned to the iPad home screen. Is this what you are experiencing?

OK Phil the "new version" was intended until yesterday :-)
I got the latest update today (jan 27th) and it seems all working.. !
I am just a little bit afraid because also the previous iGig release worked the first times i used it, then suddenly.. the dark
at the moment with this release I've got the light

Phil, it may indeed be related to Airplane Mode, though it is clumsy to check on the gig. I usually use my iPad mini to play backing tracks and leave my iPad off till I need sheet music. With Airplane Mode on, every time I launch the app, I have to go through the warning about going into settings, etc. So after a couple of times, I just turned it back off and dealt with the occasional crash, most pages work fine (I also use this device for my credit card reader, so I need quick access to wi-fi)

Phil, I have tested, and can verify that the shutdown occurs regardless of Airplane Mode setting. It DOES seem to occur on the same songs, but others from the same book play perfectly. The offenders include some from Great Gig Book, RealBook 2, and a couple PDFs from Band-In-A-Box. (Others also play fine.)

I am playing these from within a Set List, which I may have failed to mention earlier. But I have had a couple of the individual PDFs I imported from BiaB also dump once or twice.

Do you have the names of the song titles?

Here are the top four, there are others, but I don't remember which, as I don't play those as often. But this is a good selection. I was going to attach the BiaB file for reference, but the board wouldn't let me. (And other BiaB PDFs don't seem to have the same issue.)

All I Ask of You-The Ultimate Fake Book, C Edition, 2nd ed. (Hal Leonard, 1996)
Michelle half time.PDF from BiaB
Somewhere (f) - grtgigbk
Waltz for Debby - NEWREAL1

If I didn't mention previously, I do not use iCloud ever.

I to am still plagued by the closing down issue.

Ipad 4, latest IOS 8 update. I just updated to the Feb 9 Igigbook, hope that helps.

Having worked in the computer industry for my whole life i understand some of the problems and frustrations of intermittent buts, however,

This is really a very serious bug and if not solved could ruin the reputation of this product. You got to remember that this is a product to be used on a gig, the only reason someone has a chart on the gig is because they need it.

You have to trust your gear.

Thanks for listening. I still love the product but it has let me down on the stand a couple of times now.

We haven't done anything to address this issue in the latest release primarily because it isn't something we've been able to reproduce on various iPads, 2, 3, 4, Air 1, Air 2. We don't know why iOS is closing the app and returning to the home screen while no activity is taking place. What would possibly help us is for every person that reports they are having this problem, indicate what chart they were viewing even if it's a custom book they created. This at least gives us more information to work with.

More info - when iGigbook exits, first, I am working from a setlist. if I tap the icon to re-open, it opens fresh and at the same set list. If I double tap, however, iGigbook shows as still open - and with the same chart active. (in this case, Waltz for Debbie. Hope this helps (it does take usually several minutes before the app tanks, just to make it harder to reproduce...)

Here is what I know.
My iPad model is MD511C/A, 32 gigs. 4-5 gigs free.
8.1.3 OS
I have the latest version of the igigbook. Feb 9th
Telling you what chart closes will sometimes be tough, when it shuts down on the stand, the last thing I have time to do is jot down what chart it was, too busy trying to fake my way through to the end of the tune ;) , I'm a flute player so no hands free.
I have been trying to close all open apps and then shut down the pad before the gig starts.
Background refresh turned off.
Airplane mode is a no go as every page turn puts up the "Turnoff Airplane mode or use Wi-Fi to access data" message. On the stand you dont time to putz with that every tune. That's a problem. If that is a prompt generated by the gigbook, why?? It looks like the app can control whether the message is generated or not. If you can, turn it off. I already know the wi-fi is turned off.
As far as I have noticed, the shutdowns are random, haven't noticed that any particular chart is involved.

Hope this helps.
