Import bookmarks doesn't function in Android

Post by lousigpop » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:14 am

Hi,
We use both platforms iPad and Android. At iPad we can easily import all bookmarks from an pdf when using My Scores. However this doesn't function at all in the Android version. If you tap import it just stays dead. I tried several pdf's. The Android tablet is a Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70F Android version 5.0.1.

It works, just not with every PDF, we know it's a problem and is on our list of things to address.

OK, I did some tests with several pdf's. Then I noticed that all pdf's I created last weeks didn't import while the previous versions do import. Another thing I noticed last weeks that when rewriting pdf's, even from your standard Adobe reader, are automatically optimised and made smaller (sometimes it will reduce sizes up to 40%) by Adobe for webpage use. It shows you while writing the file. It seems a new feature from the latest Adobe version? That are the ones who don't import anymore. It seems it does not effect the iPad import (tested it). Might this be of any help? In fact I don't know how to prevent this optimization. So in a way I'm stuck if creating/correcting pdf's and using My Scores which I normally do.

We know what the problem is, it just takes a long time to fix it due to the complexity.

So what do you call a long time? Days, weeks or months? It seems to me a quite important issue for using iGigBook!

It could be months, the Android version doesn't really sell. We do update things that don't require a huge effort to fix or implement but most of the development effort is targeted at the iOS version, that's where the demand is.

Very strange answer imho, this doesn't help getting sales goïng up. My honest opinion is that iGigBook has very good points as music reader, especially since the searching speed in hundreds of books is much higher then in any other app I tried, not to say that some will slow down till they become unusable. IGigBook stays lightning fast all the time. Adding bookmarks to any pdf is a very simple task and can be done by anybody using the correct (free) tools. But then you really need to have this bookmark import feature for searching and not beïng depended on indexes provided by iGigBook. This last thing is killing your sales.

I know you believe your analysis is correct but I'm here to tell you that it's wrong. Lack of bookmark import from a PDF isn't why the app isn't selling, the interest just isn't there in the Android market the same way that it is in the iOS market. This is also why you don't see any of the other iOS PDF readers with an Android offering, too many resources to expend for very little return. We've toyed many times with idea of pulling the app from Android because it just doesn't make money and that wouldn't change bookmarks or no bookmarks. We'll get around to fixing this problem with the bookmarks there's just no date when nor an estimate.

I guess you won't be surprised if I don't agree with you at all. The product is good enough as I experience it on my iPad. The Android market 2-3 Times bigger. There are many other reasons why you seem to miss the boat for Android. But I doubt that the forum is the best place to discuss this.

It's understandable that you don't agree, you're not armed with the same information nor do you have the experience that we have. From the outside things look one way but up close they look entirely different. Use the indexing feature and note that every app is trying to add some kind of indexing functionality no matter how anemic.
