View book indexes?

Post by svenyonson » Sat May 27, 2017 11:47 am

I am creating a PDF from I book that I purchased and need to know how many pages precede the first chart, i.e. table of contents, outer/inner cover pages, etc. Is there a way to view the existing indexes to ensure that I assemble the PDF properly?

All you need to do is make sure that the pages are in the correct order. The number of pages you have prior to the first song does not matter since the offset can be set to accommodate that.

I have experienced this problem as well, and no offset will fix the index if there are pages missing or added (which is very common for different editions of the same volume). Sometimes I'll have an edition of a book with extra songs, and the only way to line up the index is by deleting those pages from the PDF. Similarly if there are songs missing I have to manually add blank pages.

It would be much simpler if we had access to view/edit the built-in indexes. This would also allow us to fix errors in those indexes (i.e. Jazz LTD has "N/A" as Composer for almost half of the index entries).

I hear you...this is what happens when you download PDF files from the internet, you have no idea of what you have until you actually review it. Almost every book has an index contained within it which has page numbers, iGigBook indexes are built using the index contained in the book. My advice is to review what you download and if it doesn't match it's own index find a tool and plenty of free ones are available to add pages, remove pages or reorganize them.
