Not able to independently resize H and W in "notes" notes

Post by biigdaddy » Fri Jul 20, 2018 10:28 am

It appears that when creating a note under the musical notes category, that a fixed size box appears to put the note symbol in. It also appears that this box size can only be changed by changing the font size. If this is the way it works, it limits the applicability of making the box sized properly in the H and W dimensions enough (when opaque) to replace a single note on a staff for example. I would like the ability to resize the box H and W dimensions independently like for text notes, both through finger drag, or using the H and W boxes (which are inoperable in the musical note select mode). I am running IOS 11.4.1 on an IPad Pro, and iGigbook version 5.8.4. Am i missing something or is this the way it is supposed to work? Nothing in the Adding Notes section seems to address this.

This is how it is supposed to work.

If you want to replace a single note you would have to use a blank measure without a transparent background and then put the notes you want on top of that. Usually you would use the notes with a transparent background so that you can add them to a staff on your music

Ok thank you for the clarification. I like this app a lot - it is great. I think it is awkward though, that if you want to correct or change a melody note in a fakebook that you need to replace the whole measure and rewrite all the notes in it per your description (think about having to redo a measure of a Charlie Parker melody with sixteen 16th notes), when the ability to add single notes exists. So I would like to suggest if it is not a major headache, that in a future upgrade you please add the ability to modify the H and W settings independently in the "notes" notes part of the app, like is available in the text part. Thank you!

How about a concrete example of what you're trying to do? What song in what fake book and what measure and what note?

Ok. Colorado Cookbook - song - Confirmation by Charlie Parker (written page 54, properly indexed is page 57), measure 21 (Eb-7 chord), change the 4th 16th note from A natural to a B (flat), keeping the same font size as the original note. I'm OK with having the replacement 16th note tail not connected to the preceding 16th notes.

What you're trying to do is beyond the scope of this feature, this isn't a notation app BUT there are ways to pull this off.

If I were making this change, I would use an empty white text box sized to block out the A natural sixteenth note and then add the sixteenth note with the stem pointing down and then add a ledger line through the head of the Bb.

That is an excellent workaround. It accomplishes the objective in 2 steps instead of one. I like it and will use it. But still please consider my suggestion for the future. It seems that if you have the resize ability coded in the text function, that you could leverage that code in the "notes" section.
