most frustrating app ever ★

Postby Phil Smith » Tue Mar 17, 2015 9:53 am

by M. Estero - Version - 2.67 - Mar 15, 2015

I bought app a week ago. I have now spent countless hours and am unable to get it to work, and when it does, it is inconsistent. The PDF files I have added off my Mac using iTunes do not show up in either the book list when I have named them exactly the way the instructions say, or in the My Scores list when named the original way. But the computer screen in iTunes says these files are in the app, even though they are nowhere to be seen on the iPod. But two times out of countless tries, the file did go into the book list properly, although I did nothing different the two times it worked. There is no tech support, no one to talk to. There is a forum, but nothing shows problems I am experiencing, and tho I posted a question, I dont expect anyone will answer. Unless I am contacted by someone who will walk me through whatever is wrong, this app was a huge waste of time and money. I am very POd about this whole experience.

I understand your frustration. It took me a bit of reading, and by reading I mean carefully reading each sentence and trying to understand what was being said. The good news for you is that it will work and work well. I will share what I have done and hope that in doing so you and others can see a method that works.

I am using the Hal Lenorard Real Book Sixth Edition Volume 1, Second Edititions Volumes II & III. These books are for Bb instruments so I had to scan them. Taking one book at a time I removed the sprial binding and scanned each page using a ScanSnap S1500M scanner. This device has the ability to scan duplex and to accumulate scanned images until you tell it you are done. When I finished the entire book I told the ScanSnap software to save the file as a single PDF. I named the files realbk1h.pdf, realbk2h.pdf and realbk3h.pdf. I did not scan the book index so the first page of each PDF was the first song in the book.

After connecting my iPad to my Mac i fired up iTunes, selected my iPad, clicked the Apps tap at the top of the page. Under "File Sharing" are a list of Apps one of which is iGigBook. I clicked on iGigBook and then on the Add button at the lower right. This took me to Finder screen where you can select the PDF files. Select the realbk PDF files and click Add. It only takes a few seconds and you are ready for the next step. The one that seems to trip everyone up.

On you iPad open iGigBook. Make sure you have registered and in my.igigbook.com selected the books you wish to use. In my case I selected realbk1h, realbk2h and realbk3h. Now on you iPad with iGigBook open go to the Book List view. I held my finger on Real Book 6th Edition until a prompt appeared ask to Set Book Offset. Remember I did not include the index into my PDF files so I choose -9 and pressed Set. I did the same for Real Book Vol II 2nd Edition and Real Book Vol III 2nd Edition. Be sure to refresh by pressing the icon that looks like 2 arrows chasing each others tail at the top of you screen to the right. It is the left most icon of the 4 icons. Immediately to the left of the wrench icon.

I hope this helps you. Send me a private message with you phone number if you are continuing to have problems and the best time to contact you. I will try to help you as best I can.

Dave

We appreciate you reaching out Dave. The thing to remember is that we can and do assist anyone who has a problem with the app and have had a lengthy email exchange with this user doing just that. They are now happily up and running with iGigBook!
