Migrating to iGigBook 6

Post by SiteAdmin » Thu Mar 21, 2019 1:59 pm

3/24/2019 Update:

Due to strict and highly ambiguous rules regarding "spam" we are unable to release iGigBook 6 as a separate app. All of the information you see below is no longer applicable. We will be releasing iGigBook 6 as a regular update and the drawing feature will be an In App purchase for $4.99. This isn't what we wanted to do, but there are restrictions on what we can do.

iGigBook 6 will be released as a separate app and will be available to all iGigBook users for a reduced price of $5 or free if you've purchased iGigBook for the current price of $19.99. You can pay the reduced price by purchasing the iGigBook 6 Upgrade Bundle in the App Store using the "Complete My Bundle" feature. If you payed $14.99 for the app, the bundle will cost you $5, if you payed $19.99 for the app, the bundle is free.

iOS apps do not normally share content but apps by the same developer have the ability to share data and we have used this feature to provide a quick way to transfer your content from iGigBook 5 to iGigBook 6 that does not require a connection to iTunes. This process requires 2 steps.

STEP 1 - Move content out of iGigBook 5.9

Update your version (this should happen automatically when you purchase the bundle) of iGigBook to 5.9 and launch it. Double tap the home key and swipe all apps up including iGigBook 5.9.

Open the Settings App (what you use to turn WiFi on and off). Scroll down the left to the iGigBook icon and select it. On the right you will see your iGigBook settings, scroll all the way down and enable Transfer Files To iGigBook 6.

Launch iGigBook and select the My Scores view. At the top you will see a 5th icon, a yellow cart with a package on top which starts the migration process. Select that icon and then select "Move Files" from the prompt that appears.

This process will move all of your iGigBook files to a shared area that iGigBook 6 will have access to. This means that your content will no longer be available to iGigBook 5.9. Do not perform this action unless you're ready to migrate to iGigBook 6, there is no undo for it.

STEP 2 - Move content to iGigBook 6

Install iGigBook version 6, launch it and select the My Scores view. At the top you will see the same 5th icon as described in STEP 1 above, but this time, when you select this icon it will transfer the files moved in STEP 1 to iGigBook 6. Wait until the screen updates before moving away from the My Scores view. The migration process is quick and takes less than a minute. All of your PDF files, notes, sets, etc will now appear in iGigBook 6.

We want to thank you for your continued support of iGigBook and we look forward to adding improvements and new features to iGigBook in the future.

Wow! How exciting. Is there any reason not to reload iGigBook6 content via iTunes, i.e. is there a reason we're better off by using the migration feature? I can see the advantages of the migration, but I can also see some benefits in restarting with a clean slate.

(I'm guessing that one reason would be the existing notes and bookmarks. If we load iGigBook 6 content via iTunes, as if we were restoring a backed-up iGigBook 5, then perhaps those elements would not "restore" smoothly? I'd understand if you have made internal logic/format changes that would make this not work, but thought I'd ask in case you did intend to support restoring content between versions.)

Thanks if you can clarify. Looking forward to the new version.

Fingers, any pen that allows you to interact with an iPad and the Apple pencil.

The migration process happens in seconds, we're talking 5-10 seconds to transfer the content to the shared area and 5-10 seconds to copy it from the shared area to iGigBook 6. You can of course use the iTunes method outlined here, but we were amazed at how fast the process is. It's faster than refreshing the My Scores view.

Interesting. I’m thinking this is a good opportunity to reorganize my thousands of charts and scores again, so I might do it the old fashioned way...but now I’m curious to see the instant migration!

How about the notes, set lists, and bookmark files? Have their formats changed, or are they likely to transfer over intact, as if doing a restore? I realize there are no guarantees when working with such files, but if you’re already sure they’ve changed I won’t even bother trying it.

(Why do I care about this? Because I have so many scores and charts to manage. I prefer to organize them in a directory tree, from which I extract the material I want...either to assemble PDFs or load the individual charts as separate scores. In some cases, I’ve also saved the notes and bookmark files, to streamline transferring this data between systems. I have iPads of different sizes that I use in different stage setups, and if possible I like to keep them consistent in terms of notes and bookmarks.)

Thanks again.

How do I know whether I paid 19.99 or 14.99? It was a while ago.

Hi,
But there is only 5.8.6 update version and not 5.9.
Best regards,
Igor

If you didn't purchase the app in the last two weeks, you paid $14.99.
