Re stylus vs finger: 99% of my usage for the drawing feature will be with my finger at gigs/rehearsals, and I suspect that many users will also use their finger more than a stylus. Of course, I’ll use my Apple Pencil if I’m at home but if I’m at a gig/rehearsal, I’ll definitely be using my finger.

Thanks for the 6.0.3 update.
My apple pen does not behave erratic anymore after updating to v.03, but when writing there's still some very unpleasant time delay making it hard to write fluently (other apps are doing fine - no time delay)

I’ve just updated to v6.0.3 and the erratic/low resolution handwriting is now converted to a much smoother rendering after a split second. I assume this split-second conversion is the correct behaviour? i.e. that the handwriting is initially low-res but is then smoothed out? I haven’t seen this conversion process in any other iOS app i.e. handwriting in all other apps is always a smooth and immediate rendering.

Keep in mind we're still refining the process and when you're looking at other apps you looking at their end result of that refinement. As for your observations, it depends on what apps you're looking at. Some are smooth and immediate, others aren't, but as I mentioned, we're still refining the process. Stay tuned...

1. If you read the first post in this thread you would see that it specifically mentioned you need to sync for the option to appear in the Book List view for you to be able to make a purchase.

2. The process needs to talk to Apple Servers plus our own, it's not a process that happens instantly.

3. The source of your confusion is that some PDF files are designed to be viewed in landscape though the overwhelming number of PDFs are designed to be viewed in portrait.

4. No, currently there is no zoom, it will be available shortly but my personal feeling is that drawing with your fingers isn't something that people do in real life.

5. Take a careful look at the screen.
Thanks for the reply. I’m curious about your fourth point. How do you anticipate the drawing feature will be used — presumably with a stylus? Do you keep one on stage? If Apple had given us an easy way to stow a pencil on the device, I’d like this option, but I can’t think where I’d put one given my current setup. If there is a good solution that would keep it handy and avoid losing it, I’d love to hear about it. I stopped using a stylus long ago for this reason.

Thank you for explaining about PDF orientation, I didn’t realize iGigBook was sensitive to that. And thanks for revealing that the set list add icon has simply changed. That is a relief. (The segno looked like something related to audio play.) And I’ll be sure to read the pertinent forum threads in future before upgrading. I had simply proceeded with the info on the App Store and the in-app prompts.
Call me old school... When I went to school we had penmanship classes... I used a number of tablets with the exception of the Android and iOS offerings all utilize a stylus. Most of those tablets have a way to store the stylus on the device because they were designed with a stylus in mind from the start (pen and paper metaphor) and the iPad and Android tablets were not.

I also regularly play in a number of orchestras and I have to see someone using their finger to mark up a score. Now I will admit the users of tech in the orchestra is very limited at the moment but the analog process of using a pencil is what a user is going to gravitate to. My own handwriting, though atrocious looks infinitely better with a pen or stylus that with my fingers. YMMV. :D

It's a 2016 128GB iPad Pro (Version 11.2.1 (15C153).

Notes i would be typically writing are like:
8 bar intro guitar
or:
first chorus rubato with singer
or:
for ending vamp last 4 bars

Hi Phil,

Any chance that some of these features might make their way into the Android version? It's been quite a while since the last update and we're starting to feel like the bastard step children.

That said ... I still love the app and use it on every gig.

Thanks,
Dwayne

Looking at other apps, in particular the top seller in the Music category on iOS... It does render the writing faster, unfortunately the end result doesn't look like my handwriting. We're still refining though.

I would say that the drawing will definitely make it into the Android version but the issue with Android is that it just doesn't sell, there's no real interest.
