"The Standards Real Book" offset

Post by ilacad.erik » Sun Mar 18, 2012 11:07 am

Hi guys.

I have a PDF file named "The Standards Real Book.pdf" which has 550 pages and the first page has a title that says:

"The STANDARDS REAL BOOK - A Collection Of Some Of the Greatest Songs of the 20th Century; Created by Musicians, for Musicians"

Is this the book that I have to rename strealbk.pdf? The thing is, using the default offset of 13, a few songs are right, but some are off by 3, 5 or sometimes 10 pages. So I don't think fixing the offset will solve the problem. Are there other solutions? Or is this a different book from strealbk.pdf?

Thanks guys.

Erik

The first thing you need to do before thinking about offsets you have to vverify that all of the pages are present, meaning when you consult the index in the book itself the songs are on the pages indicated.

I came here with the same question. The Standards .pdf I've had for years doesn't match up. I realize now that the version I had was missing a few pages. (12,18, 26,48,62, 82, 106, 120, 126, 166, 174, etc.). Then some pages get jumbled around 227. I never noticed before using an indexing system. Who has a good legit pdf source for this one?

You can use preview on the Mac to add blank pages and rearrange the ones that are in the wrong order.

Indeed!

SOLUTION for anyone having trouble with "the standards" real book.

Your book is likely out of order and missing pages! It only take about 5 minutes to fix it up. Our copies had missing pages for blank pages!

Go through you book using PREVIEW on a mac. Then, when a page is missing simply click EDIT -> insert blank page. If things are out of order, which some pages will be around 237, simply click and drag them in the correct order. There are about 15 missing pages and 4
pages out of order. Once you organize it correctly the default offset of 13 pages works for me.

It's not iGigBook's fault! How could they plan for a book that's been edited to remove blank pages??? Easy fix and things work as intended after the fixes :)

Message me if you can't figure it out. Pretty simple fix though!

The only request I have tor iGigBook is to have a picture of the different books covers. It can be a pain to figure out which book the "New Real Book" is vs. the "Real Book" and more. A simple visual index or external link to where we can purchase them would help.

Thanks for the heads up guys, though I don't have a mac to do that. But yeah, thanks still!

That Visual Cover is a great idea!!! With all the word "real" and "fake" in the titles, it's sometimes confusing until you see a page from a book, recognizing it by the font or whatever, and say "ooops wrong book". lol

The Standards Real Book

Hi, the index to this book is off. I deleted the program, reinstalled both it and the book, tried figuring out an offset and there is no way I can figure this out. When I click on the first tune in index Get out of Town comes up. If I click on "Come fly with Me " Crazy he calls me" comes up.This is 6 pgs. off Is there a fix? Has this happened to anyone else? I can use a pdf reader besides this app but...this index should be right..and it could be me....so hopefully there's an answer. Thanks

Jim

Did you scan this book yourself, if not you have to check to see if all of the pages of the book are present and that includes pictures. If the book doesn't match it's own index then it won't match up with the iGigBook index.

Thanks for your post, I have been struggling with this book for months, even though it took a little longer than 5 min. I got it done and the index is synced perfectly..this should be a sticky note so every one can see what to do instead of digging for this info. Once again, this was great advice

I'm glad you got that resolved but you didn't have to go digging for an answer as the methodology for resolving these issues with PDF files that are missing pages is stickied in the How To section.
