Connecting iPad to Bluetooth MIDI Interface

Post by mpelzsherman »

Can someone please explain how to connect iGigBook for iPad to a bluetooth MIDI interface?

In my case, I want to be able to send MIDI program changes to my keyboard when I switch between songs.

I am using the Yamaha MD-BT01 Wireless Bluetooth MIDI Adapter, which works great with other apps like GarageBand.

Many thanks in advance!

That doesn’t explain how to connect to the Bluetooth interface.

We can't help you with connectivity. If Apple is doing something different with MIDI connections over bluetooth, the MIDI feature in iGigBook isn't going to work. We know it works with devices connected via the lightning port.

Give us a full account of what you are doing that explains what you mean in detail by not working.

Again: I am using the Yamaha MD-BT01 Wireless Bluetooth MIDI Adapter. I have this connected to my MIDI keyboard (a Nord Electro 5D).

In GarageBand, I can connect to the bluetooth adapter using the settings in the app, as described here:
https://support.apple.com/guide/garageb ... 321/ipados

My hunch is that each application must add support for Bluetooth MIDI; it's not something that's provided by the OS.

Sounds like I will have to purchase a hardware interface like the iRig to make this work?

Once connected using that guide through the use of GarageBand, your MD-BT01 should function as a regular MIDI device. I would try that before investing in another piece of hardware. Yamaha I believe has their own app they may do the same thing, meaning it makes their bluetooth device available as a regular MIDI device.

Also try downloading the app "Bluetooth MIDI Connect", which will enable you to connect to a Bluetooth MIDI device.
