2.65 won't run on iPad2

Post by Meerut »

I updated the app to 2.65, and now it won't run on my iPad2. I never had a problem with this app until this latest update. Very frustrating, because I rely on this app daily. It's the reason I have an iPad.

When I try to run it, I get the startup image, then an immediate shutdown. I was eventually able to run it briefly, but only by completely deleting, then reinstalling the app, and all the books (very tedious procedure). Unfortunately, It only ran until I turned it off, then wouldn't run again. When it was running, there were still problems. The book list wouldn't show the bottom three books. I could see them if I scroll, but it snaps back and won't let me select them. Also, it ignored changes to the book list that I made and saved with the web based content manager.

I'm running an iPad 2, model #MC980LL/A, IOS 7.1.1. Here's what I tried:
Turning off all other apps.
Switching to Airplane mode.
Disabling background refresh for all apps.
Changed settings for the book list to not display icons (This never worked at all, anyway).
Changed settings to turn off anything not necessary to run, such as music player settings. I can't think of anything else to try.

I could only try so many times to get this running before I got a message saying I've exceeded my number of allowable synchronizations! Great. Now what?

Again, I never had a problem with this app before this latest update. I can't believe I'm the only one having these issues.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I really need this to work.

When you uninstall the app and then reinstall it, you're logged in as a guest, which is why you don't see the indexes you have marked as active and also there's an item at the top that indicates you are not logged in.

We know there is a problem with the last items in the list being un-selectable and will have a fix for that shortly.

I understand that, and I know that I would have to log in. I did this a number of times while trying to resolve this problem. I also had to sync a number of times, but now I'm locked out until tomorrow, I guess? Anyway it doesn't help if the app won't run. I can reinstall and log in again, and it might work for a brief period, but it always fails to run soon after that. The OS still sees it as a running app, even though it's disappeared, but turning it off makes no difference. I'm still dead in the water here.

I see what you're saying...you have to swipe the app out of the suspended tray even when it crashes.

Yes. I don't know if that makes any difference, but it might be helpful info just to figure out what's going on. After the crash, which doesn't get past the startup image, the "tray" of running apps shows the book list page, and clicking on it shows me that page for about a half second before it crashes again.

Don't click on it, swipe it up to remove it from the tray which removes it from memory. This doesn't uninstall the app, it does remove it from memory.

Yes, I know that, and I know how to uninstall the app. I've spent countless hours uninstalling and reinstalling it since yesterday. I just want this to work again. I don't suppose there's any way to "downgrade" to the previous version that always worked... No. probably not. I've been using this app since it's introduction, and installed every update along the way. Never a problem until now. Unfortunately, It has become an essential tool, and now I'll have to try to find an alternative, if there is one anywhere. Thanks for responding. Hopefully, this will get sorted out in a future update.

Okay there seems to be a miscommunication here. I'm not asking you to uninstall the app, I'm asking you to remove it from the suspended app tray and then relaunch it.

I have, of course, done this many times already. That's the first thing I would do if an app is acting up. It makes no difference. Reinstalling was a desperate last-ditch attempt at getting it to finally run. Did that several times too, which was a waste of several hours of my time. I think I have been clear about the symptoms I'm experiencing, and what I have done to try fixing it, if you'll just go back and re-read my posts in this thread. If I'm being unclear, I'm happy to provide any additional details if needed, in order to solve this problem.

If this wasn't such a great app to begin with, I wouldn't be so torqued about it. As a music professional, I've come to rely on it, and now it's useless to me. I'm still hopeful of a resolution of the issue that's causing it to crash upon launch. Thanks again for your help.

I hear you, here is what I believe will help you right now. Please follow these directions in the order that they appear.

Uninstall the app.
Re-install the app but don't run it.
Don't copy your backed up content to it yet.
Set "Show Book List As Icons" off.
Launch the app, it will sync with the server and pull down the guest index list.
Log in to the app and sync to pull down your indexes.
Now copy your content back to the app.
