Exporting from iPad to Android

Post by jaelliott » Wed Aug 19, 2015 2:50 pm

An elderly friend who plays bass with me has bought iGigBook for his Android tablet (Samsung SMT530). He is too old to get iGigBook working himself and has asked me to help.

So I have had a look on this forum and found stuff about how to set up iGigBook on Android. I set up the igigbook folder on his device. I used iTunes to get the files from my iPad to my PC using a cable connection. I then used the Android cable connection to put all the file in the igigbook folder on the Android.

At this point, I was delighted to see that the standard books for which there are indices appeared in Book view, so I know that worked. And I can view the songs.

1: But they all appear 2-pages per screen, so I need to work out how to turn that off.

Next, I looked in My Scores and could see nothing and refresh did not work. However, Phil advised that closing suspended apps would help. And it did. So that works. I can see all my custom PDFs I imported.

Next, I checked Song view and that is fine (but 2-pages per screen).

Find composers also works.

Finally, Gig Set viewer and Set list manager have nothing in them.

So, my question is, is it not possible to export set lists from iPad to Android? I think I have done so, but cannot see them.

Android iGigBook v 2.68.4
iPad iGigBook v 2.68

If you use your android tablet in landscape mode, you will see two pages side by side. In portrait you see a single page.

To transfer the sets to an Android device you need to use the Set List Sharing feature from the iPad, and yes that means one at a time.

Phil

Thanks for your reply. I am new to this Android lark. Is it simple to lock it into portrait mode?

Also, can you provide a link to where the iPad Set List Sharing is described?

OK, I have found how to lock the Android screen into portrait orientation, so that problem seems solved.

The exporting of set lists is still a mystery. I have found a post of someone else asking the same question but there is no answer.
I found a post saying this feature was added in version 1.77.

So I have tried experimenting. I tried the email the set list feature and asked it to not generate PDF. The email contains a .igbset file which I am hoping is the set list file. I saved this to the Android igigbook folder, but no set list appears.

To be clear, I am looking to export the set list 'file' that tells the Android where to find all the songs in the the PDFs which I have copied to it from the iPad.

Phil, can you tell me where this is documented, or if it is not, what to do?

thanks

How To Use The Set List Sharing Feature:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=227

If you copied the .igbset file to your device when you try to open that file you should receive a message from Android asking if you want to open the file in iGigBook. Select "Just Once" should open the app to the Set List Manager with that set imported and added to your list of existing sets.

Phil

Many thanks. I copied the .igbset file to the Android igigbook folder. When I click on it, the Android says "Unable to find application to perform this action" and it does not give me to opportunity to tell it iGigBook.

The same happens with .plist and .bookmark files.

If I click on a PDF in this folder, it opens it in iGigBook.

So, there seems to be a need to associate the file extension (just once), as you say, but I don't know how to make the opportunity happen.

I've been reading about associating file extension on Android, but it all seems to be about removing them by Clearing Defaults and I am concerned that I will stop iGigBook working completely. Any tips on how to make Android ask me what to open the file with?

This functionality doesn't seem to be working at the moment. The next update should correct that.

Correction: Using the set set list sharing feature from an iPad which delivers the .igbset file via email and then to the Downloads area, tapping on the igbset file in the Downloads area, consistently opens iGigBook to the Set List Manager with the set imported.

Thanks Phil

That does not work for me either. I copied the .igbset file to the 'Download' folder under Device Storage. Tapping the file there has exactly the same result. "Unable to find application to perform this action" appears for 2 seconds and then disappears. No opportunity to change anything.

Hi Phil

Another update: I tried to email the .igbset file instead and 'Viewed' the attachment from the email. Surprisingly, this did automatically open iGigBook in the Gig Set Viewer. But the set list was not there. Thought you would like to know this new info about file association working from email but not from the folder area,

What I think you are saying is that this will work in the next version. Do you know when that might be out?

I think I was trying to say that you cannot just copy the .igbset file to the Downloads folder and then attempt the "Open In" because for some reason that does not work. It seems to require that an "Android" app to place a file there and then it will work. Email that same .igbset file, the one you're having a problem with, to help [at] igigbook [dot] com.
