renaming files and book indexes

Post by Escallonia » Wed Dec 04, 2019 1:10 pm

I added about a hundred songs/pdfs to "unindexed scores". Later I created a book of those pdfs and an index and bulk uploaded that. Now when I try to access one of those songs, it says it is not found, "please copy this book to your device".
I have since deleted all the song entries for that book, and deleted the book from My Book Settings, but it still won't let me access, rename, or add that song title, even if I rename the pdf file on my computer and try to add it with the different title. it shows up as the file name with some long number at the beginning.
How can I unscramble this?

An index is used to access individual songs in a single PDF not multiple PDF files in My Scores. My Scores has it own search feature which will find individual songs contained in My Scores no index is required for this to happen.

To accomplish what you were trying you would have to take all of the individual PDF files in My Scores and combine them into a single PDF and then link that PDF to the index you created. This isn't what you did, you created the index but didn't combine all of the files into a single PDF. Your existing PDF files are searchable via My Scores and there's no need to create an index and combine all of the files into a single PDF.

Whenever you add a file that already exists in My Scores via import or rename a file to the name of one that exists a backup is created with a date stamp which you described as "some long number".

Thank you, I have worked around it and now have the file in My Scores. There is a lingering problem--whenever I rescan My Scores, the title, along with several backup copies show up with the date stamp showing "0 pages". I can get them off the screen by pressing and holding, but they come back whenever I rescan.

As was explained above, those are backup files the result of you either importing the same file or renaming a file to one that already exists. They don't go away until you delete them. How do you delete them? Press and hold the file name.

When I delete them by pressing and holding the filename, they disappear from the list (without any "are you sure" prompt), but they come back when I rescan. Also, they show "0 pages", which makes me think they are not copies of the original file.
Also, the title (i.e. the filename without the datestamp prefix) is also listed ("zero pages"), and if I delete it by pressing and holding the filename, it disappears from the list but comes back when I rescan.

Another strange thing--when I renamed the file "Bring Me Sunshine" to "DON'T Bring Me Sunshine", it did the same thing--said it was not found, I needed to add the book, and showed it as zero pages. There are now about 6 backup copies of "Bring Me Sunshine", and 3 copies of "Don't Bring Me Sunshine" that re-appear whenever I rescan.

When you press and hold and item from the My Scores view, the File Action Menu appears, if you select Delete it always prompts for confirmation.

What do you mean by "said it was not found"?

Thanks for your help,
When I press and hold on other filenames, I get the File Action menu, but on these, the file just disappears from the list with no prompt. If I touch but don't press, it gives the filename and says 'not found, please COPY this book to your device".
"Bring_Me_Sunshine Not Found. Please Copy this book to your device"
If I go into the Files app on my IPad and use the "up arrow" icon to share the pdf file for the song, I can choose "copy to IGigbook", but IGigbook comes back and gives the same 'not found' message.
I have seven entries for "Bring Me Sunshine", two for "Don't Bring Me Sunshine", and two for "Copy Bring Me Sunshine", all showing that they are zero pages long.
If I press and hold the file (i.e. the filename without the datestamp prefix) it disappears without a prompt, but reappears when I rescan, and also generates a new backup copy with a datestamp prefix.

I see, you're using the Files App...

I've just tried to use the app to open a PDF in the Files App and it doesn't seem to work. I would use some other method of getting your PDF files into iGigBook, like DropBox, Google Drive, etc because from what I see the Files App and iGigBook aren't working and in my case the Files App isn't working.

Update:

On further analysis, the files I was attempting to open in the Files App were from the "Recents" area which were files that were downloaded an imported into the app from Google Drive. None of those files would open. On another iPad, downloading a PDF to the Files App and selecting "Copy to iGigBook 6" results in the PDF being successfully imported into the app.
