iGigBook settings and Show Bookmarks First

Post by spinality »

Is there a document here that describes the various iOS settings for iGigBook? I have always wondered what Show Bookmarks First does. As far as I can see, when I turn this on I no longer get bookmarks in my Song Search results, which isn't what I'd expect and never what I'd want (I just spent five minutes trying to locate some titles that I knew existed, and could find with Gig Manager, but weren't showing up in the Song Search). I'm sure this is all covered in one of the How-Tos but I can't seem to find it. I'm hoping there's a one-pager that just goes through all the settings and explains what each does. Thanks if you can point me at any info.

Currently there does not exist a page that list each setting and describes what it does. The settings are usually explained in the How To topic for the specific feature that they effect.

Show Bookmarks First under the heading SEARCH SETTINGS in settings will show bookmarks prior to other search results in My Scores and probably should do the same in the Song Title search so it's probably a bug that no bookmarks show in Song Title search. I take it no one ever uses this option since it's been around for a couple of years and no one has ever complained about it. We will look into it and fix it in a future update.

After reviewing the code for this setting, it's working as designed.

Turn the setting on, bookmarks appear first in any My Scores search and bookmarks do not appear in any Song Title search.

Turn the setting off, the default, bookmarks appear at the end of the My Scores search and the Song Title search.

Reasoning for this? Separate My Scores search results from Indexed search results.

Thank you for looking into it. I do like the bookmarks appearing first in My Scores searches, but having no bookmarks in Song Title search results makes the feature non-useful for me. I rely on bookmarks for many of my PDFs; this approach has proven much more handy for small or frequently-updated PDFs than creating iGb indexes, which seems best for larger non-changing books. I do love the integration of bookmarks and indexes within the search engine.

OK, thanks again, I'll just keep the feature turned off.

Don't use the Song Title search when you have built your workflow around bookmarks. Also don't lose sight of the fact that both of these searches are a single tap away, no digging into or backing out of menus, just a single tap to select a search. Totally useful in real world scenarios.

Now I'm confused. How else would I search among both bookmarks and index entries for a song title, other than with Song Search (or from within a set list)? Am I missing some different search mechanism? Sorry if I'm being dense.

Or perhaps you're talking about searching within the Set Manager? The advantage of using Song Search is that I can then view the full score, rather than just the thumbnail shown by the Set Manager. I might have to pick from 20-30 different versions of a tune. I'm not necessarily building a set list, but might just be browsing through different charts, playing/reading/studying them. It's a normal part of my woodshed time. Basically my bookmark/index workflow is good. I just hadn't realized that the "bookmarks first" option would defeat my normal approach for finding tunes.
