Jazz 1200 in set list -- always in C Major

Post by spinality » Wed Oct 17, 2012 1:54 pm

I am having a surprising problem -- I don't think this used to happen. When I choose a "Jazz 1200" tune via "Song search" it is displayed in the correct default key. If I add it to a set list using the '+' button it gets added showing the same correct key.

But when I add it to a set list via the set list manager, it always seems to arrive tagged as being in C major. Thus I get something like "Body and Soul-C Major" but showing the correct default chords in the normal key (Db). Then to transpose, say, to Eb Major, I would need to choose "D Major" from the transpose dropdown to go up a whole step from what it thought was C Major.

Is this a known issue? (I haven't found any mention of it.) Thanks if you have any clues. We had a disaster on the bandstand last night with half the band playing Line for Lyons in C and the other half playing it in F. Lots of raised eyebrows until we realized what was happening. Odd thing is we played this tune two weeks ago -- all in the correct key.

Yes, there is a problem with adding a chart from the transposing book using the Set List Manager and should be fixed in the next release. In the interim, I would add those charts using the Book List view or the Song Title search or the Composer search.

Personally I never use the Set List Manager to add charts that transpose because often times the chart I want is not default key and I want to see the chart prior to adding it. I tend to use the Book List view or the Song Title search.

Thanks much for explaining. Now that I know about it it's pretty easy to deal with.

I didn't realize that the transposed key was remembered when adding from Song Search...that's a pleasant surprise. I have become accustomed to hitting 'transpose' as needed when the tune appeared.

Building a set list from the set list manager is a familiar and rapid process at this point, so I expect I won't often decide to flip over to song search to add one tune in the right key, then return to set list manager for the rest of the list. But we'll see.

In an ideal world, I'd be able to open a tune from within the set list manager (something I often wish I could do), and then in addition I would be able to do a transposition and have the change remembered in the set list. But I can see that would not be a trivial feature to add.

Thanks again.

This has been fixed in version 1.77.
