Perhaps. But then I'd have to go back to working as hard as you do. My intense software days were long before iOS. I don't relish going back to 100 hour weeks; I just mothballed three of my older development systems, and I don't plan to replace them. As long as there are smart guys doing the heavy lifting, I'm happy to sit on the sidelines and reap the benefits. I might not be able to dodge work forever (a few things are simmering on the back burner that keep threatening to go active)...but I'd rather spend my time playing music. (If Apple made it a little easier for self-use development, I would have built some iPad tools for my own jollies; but I don't really want to climb the release mountain that *you* have to deal with. I mean, it's not like doing open source work under Debian.)

BTW you didn't say anything about my use cases...where new pages get added other than at the end. Did that make sense, or do you think I am in an atypical situation? Those actions (inserting pages for nearby placement, or matching an evolving paper book) don't t seem weird to me, but maybe they are.

I don't play in a band, I have in the past, but for the longest I have been a sideman. People call me, tell me or not tell me what we're going to play, I show up and do my best to make them sound good. iGigBook is born out of this particular reality. What's important to me, the pianist at the piano bar, that guitarist at the jam session, or the bassist at the open mic is the answer to the following question on a gig in real time: "Given a haystack(a bunch of books), how do I quickly find that needle(a single song)?"

In one case, the whole book is alphabetical, so new entries need to go in the appropriate slice.

In iGigBook the order of the songs in a book are irrelevant once the book is mapped by an index. Songs can be in any order, from A-Z, Z-A or just randomly assembled in the PDF but appear in alphabetical order in the Book List view.
