Selecting certain pages from one book causes crash

Post by Nye Morton » Tue Feb 12, 2019 12:45 am

I'm on the latest Android version (4.7.2) When certain pages from one particular book are selected, the tune list slides to the left and leaves a black screen. The keyboard (if it was used) remains, but nothing else. Returning to the home screen allows iGigBook to be opened again, but now no page selections work and the tablet must be restarted.

The book is Real Book Vol II 2nd Edition (realbk2h), which I loaded in from CD-ROM. The first page I noticed doing this is PDF 22 (printed page 30), Bags' Groove. There have been others, but it takes so much time to get the tablet back working that I usually don't trust the book if the tune appears elsewhere.

Another problem occurs when paging through this same book-- one page appears normally, but paging through from there only works for the first few pages, then the program locks on a page and won't move. The "iGigBook isn't responding" notice comes up and I quit the program, a selection window remains but doesn't function, and I have to restart the tablet.

Something else: the PDF of the book displays normally on my computer, with the cover coming up first, but in the Book List view of iGigBook, instead of the cover I get page 166 (printed 174), "I Get Along Without You Very Well".

When you say "loaded in from CD-ROM" is this a PDF you assembled by combining the individual song PDF files on the Hal Leonard CD-ROM or is this PDF from a CD-ROM you own or that was given to you? We have this book and we used the iPad app to create a single PDF from the individual songs on the Hal Leonard CD-ROM and it works without a problem. What is the size of this PDF?

When you select an item from the Book List View you are presented with a list of song titles and we never include the cover pages as a song title. Perhaps you can explain better what you mean here.

I purchased CD-ROMs for both realbk2h and realbk3h from Hal Leonard. I was not able to manage the iTunes method of importing them into my Android tablet, so a friend with an iPad did it on his tablet and sent me the PDF files via Dropbox. From there I loaded the files into iGigBook on my tablet in the usual way. When I synced my Book List I noticed that although Vol. 3 displayed its front cover (as do all the other books), Vol. 2 displayed page 174 (PDF 166). I didn't suspect anything amiss until I selected a page from Vol. 2 (in Song Search) on a gig and the whole screen went black. Later I was able to open a page from Vol. 2 directly from its Book List, but was unable to page through more than a few pages before it locked up. My friend with the iPad has noticed no problems with the same book, although it displays page 10 (PDF 2), rather than the front cover, in his Book List view. Vol. 3 has shown no problems for me.

For the Hal Leonard Real Book Vol II 2nd Edition, the first song and page of that book should be the song "Ablution" showing page 10 on the upper left hand corner of the chart while the top status bar will show "Page 1". The app pulls the first page of the PDF to create the thumbnail image that you see in the Book List view. If you see something other than "Ablution" for that PDF it would indicate there's a problem with the PDF especially if it was created using the iPad version of the App which builds the PDF based a set list that does not include a cover page.
