i Gig Book

Stumped, I say.

I'm using an iPod 4th Generation, 32 GB (Why can't Apple just write on the things somewhere what generation it is?)
I'm using an iPad Air 2, Model Number MGKL2LL/A
I'm running iOS 8.2. (installed just hours ago)
I'm running iGigBook 2.67

Last week's gig, I attempted to use Pager with Book. I could never get them to connect. So I gave up and just did it the old manual way. You know, with my hands. Turning the pages.

About halfway through the set, I look down at my iPod on the stand and the letters are green. Well, it's too late then for me to buckle the thing on my leg; I'm not going to let the dance floor empty while I strap up.

We finished the set. I closed the iPad. I came back from break early for the express purpose of having Pager working and giving it PLENTY of time to connect.

But they never did connect. And they still haven't connected. I kept trying and trying. I really want this to work for me. And then for any reason I cannot explain, Pager began to act like it did as I detailed in another post: That is to say I would touch the Pager icon on the iPod to open it, I'd see the main little splash screen for about a second, and then Pager would close again.

As before, I deleted Pager and downloaded it again.

So let's review:

iPod 4 settings:
Airplane Mode: On
Wi-Fi: On
Bluetooth: On
Connection ID: igigbook
Client Mode: Off
BLE: Off
Bluetooth pairings: none

Pager configuration:
Top Button: Prev page
Bottom Button: Next page
Single Switch: Off
Motion Detect: On

iPad Air 2:
Airplane Mode: On
Wi-Fi: On
Bluetooth: On
Pairings: None

iGigBook settings:
Server Mode: Off
BLE: Off
Cache Content: On

On the iPod, I open Pager and go to the Config page. Press "Done" and go back to the screen where I see "PREV PAGE" and "NEXT PAGE."
On the iPad, I open iGigBook, go to Gig Set Viewer. Select a Set to view.
It opens, and I select a song from the Set Viewer.

And wait. And wait. And wait. Four minutes should give enough time to connect, no? Still I get nothing but an iPod screenful of big red letters.

And so, in conclusion, I am stumped. This will be enough information, I trust, for you-all to attempt to diagnose what has happened here. I look forward to hearing from you soon and thank you for your prompt attention to this small matter.

You might as well turn Airplane mode off since you have enabled Wifi and bluetooth.

You should turn on BLE for both the iPod and the iPad, it connects faster.

Really, I thought -- probably incorrectly; I'm not much familiar with Apple devices or anything Apple -- that the iPod Touch 4th Generation didn't have any BLE capability.

To sum up thus far, BLE is enabled for both devices. And I got nothing. Red letters.

I disabled Airplane Mode upon the advice of one of your earlier posts on another thread. And after doing that, I had a working connection at that time sometime. It's never been what I'd call reliable.

But the settings that I detailed above, they are in your judgment correct?

There is nothing incorrect with any of them that would prevent the devices from connecting?

If there is anything that is incorrect in those settings above, what would that be?

Can you take the above iPad and iPod and iGig and Pager settings and provide the correct and/or recommended setting for each one?

Re: the above, I have a question as an afterthought.

If I can pair the iPod with Pager on it to another device via Bluetooth -- not the iPad with iGig on it -- and if I can pair the iPad to some other device -- not the iPod with Pager on it -- as a troubleshooting step, have I then ruled out the possibility of some defect in either device as to connectivity?

Or does pairing not make any difference to what is going on between iPod/Pager and iPad/iGig.

There's no pairing involved, if any of the devices are paired with each other or something else, it's not going to work.

My mistake, 4th generation iPod will not support BLE. In non-BLE mode, iGigBook Pager will only connect while viewing a chart from the Gig Set View.

Yes, I'm aware that there is no pairing involved. My question wasn't regarding pairing per se but more toward troubleshooting, to wit from a previous post:

My question, then -- awkwardly worded as well as conceptualized I would readily admit -- is if both devices will pair with something else, they will communicate. And if they will communicate, then it's not a communication problem with either device; correct?

Put another way: If a device -- just for illustrative purposes here I'll choose the iPod with Pager -- won't pair with anything in the known universe, is there a chance that it still might connect and communicate with the iPad?

Not saying I'm pairing; I'm not. Not saying pairing has anything to do with iPad/iGig and iPod/iPager. Just asking about communications between devices.

Is the answer to my question "Yes", "No", or "I don't know," or "It doesn't matter"?

With version 2.67 of iGigBook BLE, mode is the only way that it will work which doesn't help you because you're using a 4th gen iPod. BLE is a lot quicker and connects more reliably and works with iPads as well as Android tablets. We'll look in to it though and post an update.

And then how do I roll back to 2.66? Because I'd truly like -- no, prefer -- to use IGig with the page turner. I do hope you're not going to answer and tell me I need to go spend $300 or so on a new iPod just so I can use a 99 cent app.

If you backed up your device while 2.66 was installed, doing a restore should work.
