As I understand it, the playback function displays library matches that are exact, or where the set list name is a substring of the library entry. It would be great if this would also work in reverse: find library matches that are substrings of the set list name. Some books, e.g. Great Gig Book, append keys or other info in parens: "East of the Sun (G)". Alternatively, I think you could safely ignore anything in parens when constructing the search. Maybe only do this if no match is found. I realize that I can rename set list entries to force a match, but creating multiple set lists each week means this would be tedious -- it's faster to hop over to the player and search directly. But that bypasses a useful feature.

We don't currently offer an index for "Great Gig Book", which means you are in control of what the song entries look like since it would be a custom index that you uploaded or someone else is sharing with you. It's also not clear to me what exactly you're trying to achieve. Perhaps you can describe in detail what your "real" world situation is which will give me better insight as to what you are doing.

Oh, very sorry, bad example. I forgot that this book was from a shared index, since I've been using it for so long. (Of course, since it's a shared index, rather than one I created, I don't really "have control" of the entries. I'm not eager to bother the person who generously shared the index. So I need to keep using it as-is.)

But here are some different examples where parentheses appear in titles:

• "Corcovado (Quiet Nights)" in the Classic Real Book and others
• "Quiet NIghts Of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)" in Ultimate Jazz Fakebook and others
• "I Get A Kick Out Of You (Anything Goes)" in The Book, which often cites show names
• "I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You)" in the Legit Professional Fake Book and others
• "Boplicity (Bebop Lives)" in Ultimate Jazz Fakebook

There are also lots of titles that include commas, e.g.:

• "American Patrol, The" in the Firehouse book
• "Charleston, The" in the FIrehouse boook and others

In other words, if I happen to have a recording with the title "Charleston" I'd love for that to appear when looking at a chart titled "Charleston, The". In an ideal world, a Google-like search would match salient elements from both sets of titles, and return approximate matches. But I'm sure that this would be far too much work for too little benefit. However, I do suspect that stripping strings from the search string like ", The" and ", A" and text within parens would provide a much better chance of getting matches.

What about the instrumentalist that does solo gigs and has created their own index with song names like?

"Latin Track"
"Latin Track (Bass & Timbales)"
"Latic Track (Extended)"

Or the instrumentalist plus vocalist?

"How High The Moon (Jane Version)"
"How High The Moon (Joe Version)"

In both instances, these individuals have added tracks with specific names to match a specific chart that they want to use as accompaniment when the chart is displayed. Note also that when musicians are using tracks, there's often a great deal of "planning" or "set up" that goes into coordinating the "performance" in addition to using the actual Music Player features, such as search, to make sure the track that's going to be used is what is desired.

We can't change the app to "ignore" what's in parenthesis, because musicians exist that take advantage of the fact that the app uses that information in the search.

Ah. That makes sense. I was thinking about people who were looking for library matches among commercial recordings, and forgetting about people working with their own backing tracks etc.

In the case where NO matches are found, it would still be lovely if the criteria could be steadily relaxed/expanded until SOME matches are found. But apparently the usage case you are describing is the normal one.
