Sher Music New Real Book Digital Edition

New user here…. Looks like a great app but…..I just got iGigBook for iPad and also just purchased the Sher Music New Real Book Digital Edition, thinking it would show in iGigBook and I would be able to search all the songs…. Apparently, this is an unindexed book - I can see and manually scan but can’t search it and there is no clickable index. Does that mean I just wasted the money on this book? Is there something else I have to do get it to be recognized as indexed and searchable? I have already “synchronized”… Also, I thought I’d be able to find links to books available and compatible… Where do I get books that are searchable, if not from Sher Music?? Is there a page with links to available books that work?

thanks for quick reply.. I did link these files, changing the name to nrealbk1db (for the Bb book). Unfortunately the index is different than that in the book. It doesn't appear that it is just an offset since the actual book starts with the song Affirmation but the index starts with A Little Tear. I've check a few other spots such as the Es... Index starts with E.S.P but book starts with Early Autumn, or Lady Bird vs La Samba as first of Ls. Hmmmm.. It looks like some songs have been added. I'm assuming the "offset" is simply shifting the first starting page and assumes everything else would then line up. That is not the case here. I've unlinked the index and tried one of the others (nrealbk1d) and have the same issue. The book says it's 2015. Could these be old indexes in iGigbooks system? Or maybe I'm missing something...

When you are looking at the list of songs for a particular book in iGigBook the order of the songs you see may not be the same as those that are shown in the actual PDF but the pages are mapped correctly so that when you select that song it displays the correct page.

Computers sort based on the numerical representation of the characters in a song. This may be different from how a human decides to sort a list. "Affirmation" is the first song in the index of the book and when you view that page it has a page number of 1. "A Little Tear" is the first song in the list of songs shown by iGigBook but is listed in the index of the book under "L", the "A" is ignored which is something a human decided to do. When we display pages in the Book List View detail we aren't ignoring the "A" nor are we ignoring the word "The". What's important is that when you select a song title the page displayed is that song. If the song displayed is different that's when one needs to adjust the offset.

The detail list of songs may not reflect the detail list of songs in the actual book because the goal is to map the pages correctly so that when you find a song via a search what is displayed is that song.

It's possible that Sher Music has altered the page order of later PDFs meaning they're different from the original digital release but it's no likely. The four finger tap method to resolve index issues just requires you to type in the page number you see on the actual music. is this what you did?

I really appreciate you sticking with me on this cause I want it it work (at least the way I thought it would work). First, the number of songs in the index is different than the number in the book. I adjusted as you suggested so Affirmation comes up correctly up Until the mid Bs... I made another offset fixed one song. However, at Both Sides of Coin, it takes me to Bounc’n w Bud and the page number is 35 on both the sheet music and the offset dialog…. I can trick it by entering another number a two page offset and it seems to work but this is taking a lot of time. Two questions - is this typical that the purchased books and the indexes are not the same?? Since the number of songs doesn’t match it appears I have to go through the whole book to get this indexed correctly.. Am I correct or is there an quicker way?

What PDF do you have linked to what index? Initially you said you couldn't find the index for "New Real Book Digital Edition". Then you switched to your Bb version is not working with...and here's where it isn't clear...What index do you have the Bb book linked to?

I've just reviewed the New Real Book Digital Version in C and in Eb and there is no problem with the index. The two indexes are different because the C version and Eb version have different songs and the songs are on different pages.

For example:

"Eighty One" - Page 79 in the C book, Page 76 in the Eb and Bb book.
"Early Autumn" - Page 76 in the C book, Page 72 in the Eb and Bb book.

If you look at the index page, page 6 for the Eb book and the C book, you will see different songs on different pages and the indexes reflect that.

Why are you having problems? I'm not really sure but I can tell you this, when you set the offset for a book it covers the entire book, setting a different offset in the same book will give you a different result. My advice is not to do that.

Post page 6 of the PDF that you have which should be the index page as mentioned earlier and that way, I will know what we are dealing with here.

This matches the official PDF I have though there should be more entries on that page with the last song being "Eighty One" with a page number of 76.

We aren't seeing an issue with this index and the PDF from Sher Music.

I did not include the whole page in screen shot. Something is definitely wrong. Clicking Bouncing w Bud takes me to breakfast wine but page in offset dialog is 37 same as Breakfast Wine. Further down it get’s way worse..
