Works on an iPad running iGigBook 9 or greater. Does not work with iGigBook Mobile or iGigBook for Android.

05/08/2023 Update: Tweaks have been made to all charts so that the transpositions are in the note range of many more instruments and improved readability.



How do I buy the Transpose Book Feature? First download the file tnbbtrans.pdf then request access to the index "New Bob Book - Transpose". Do not continually download the file, you will have problems if you do. You can request access by selecting the tool icon at the top of the Book List View and then selecting "NBB-T Index Request" from the menu. Once selected, the top of the Book List will have 3 thumbnails. The 3 items you see below? They aren't steps to take. They are the order of the thumbnails on the top row of the Book List View.

3. Purchase Transpose Book Feature.

Do not purchase the Transpose Book Feature until you have downloaded tnbbtrans.pdf, requested the index and can see the thumbnail for "New Bob Book - Transpose" and can display the songs contained within it. You can see what the thumbnail looks like in the above video at the 5 second mark.

If you have purchased the Transpose Book Feature and you are still prompted to purchase the feature, select the icon at the top of the Book List View that looks like a wrench and then select "Restore Purchases".

The feature works great, it's a brilliant improvement and innovation. However, when you leave and come back, the page reverts to its original key. Any possibility of making the transpose 'stick' in a future update? I thought maybe in the 'Songs' list, but this book isn't in there...
My problem is a singer who never sings standard key AND doesn't remember her keys!

And while I'm on the subject, any possibility of Sibelius users writing their OWN tunes this way? Another marketable update I'd jump at. Either way, thanks for this great leap forward, to paraphrase a phrase.

As a saxophone player - the new transposition functions are fantastic. They really work, and a very good value,

What I think would make it work better for a instrument that functions in another key - Eb and Bb in particular - would be a global transpose function. ALL selections from the index come up transposed appropriate for Bb or Eb. Or F for horn, etc.

Also, when I do transpose, often the melody comes up an octave too low - many melody notes well below the range of the instrument. It would be nice if after transposing to a new key if there was a function to transpose or shift the output by an octave.

Again, a wonderful addition, I hope it continues to develop.

If you transpose and then add that item to a set list, it will exist in the set list as the transposed key. I'm not so sure about the "making it stick" feature which I think could cause confusion.

To be honest with you, at the current moment we're not leaning in this direction. That may change but for now, no plans for anything like that.

We are currently looking at making the global transposition feature that we have in place for chord charts cover this feature as well.

Can you provide the names of 1 or 2 of these charts that exhibit this behavior?

An example I encountered yesterday was Jeannine - it is in Ab minor, switching to F minor for Eb sax results in a lot of melody below the lower range for saxophone, Bb

I saw others

It looks like most of the time if the melody is below “C” below the staff in the default key, transposing for Eb instruments puts the melody below the range of the saxophone

Another example ‘Round Midnight, when transposed to Eb, much of the melody is well below the range of the saxophone. A “raise melody by 1 octave” function would remedy this.

That said, there may be instances where lowering an octave might be appropriate

Alternatively doing the transposition by more than an octave might be another approach

While using the transpose function with Bob's book last night, it occurred to me that when transposing, if the range of transposition was extended - not just the 12 keys, but continuing above the current range of transposition options, the user could select an option that transposes to the new key, and raises it an octave - It turns out many many tunes transpose so that the melody is below the range of the instrument. This would allow the use to choose where the final melody ends up. The chords of course would be the same as the choice an octave lower.

If there is a global transpose function, to make the whole book for Eb instruments, the user could still use the transposition function to shift the melody to an appropriate range.
